Frequently Asked Questions

How does blink detection work?

VisionGuard uses Apple's Vision framework to detect facial landmarks through your front camera. It measures eye openness to count blinks in real-time. All processing happens on-device — no images are stored or uploaded.

How accurate is the screen distance measurement?

Distance is estimated using face detection and the known properties of the iPhone's front camera. It is accurate to within a few centimeters for typical phone usage distances (20-60cm). For best results, ensure good lighting.

Does VisionGuard drain my battery?

VisionGuard uses the front camera at a reduced resolution and frame rate to minimize battery usage. The app automatically stops the camera when you switch to another app or lock your screen.

What is the 20-20-20 rule?

Recommended by the American Academy of Ophthalmology: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet (6 meters) away for 20 seconds. This helps reduce digital eye strain by relaxing the focusing muscles in your eyes.

Why does VisionGuard need camera access?

The front camera is essential for detecting your blink rate and measuring screen distance. Without it, these core features cannot function. All processing is on-device — VisionGuard never stores, uploads, or shares any camera data.

Can I change the break interval?

Yes! Go to Settings > Break Settings to customize the break interval (10-60 minutes) and break duration (10-60 seconds).

Does VisionGuard work in the background?

No. VisionGuard only monitors when the app is in the foreground and you have started a monitoring session. The camera stops when the app goes to the background to save battery.

How do I delete my data?

All data is stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app removes all data. You can also clear data from within the app's Settings.
